Catalogue Note

This model, Ref. 1680, was launched in 1966 as the first Submariner model to feature a date aperture. The word ' Submariner' was originally printed in red lettering. Ultimately the signature was standardized to white, making examples with the red writing far more limited and thus more desirable. A similar example is illustrated in Skeet & Urul, Vintage Rolex Sports Models, 2nd Edition, p. 42.
