The patent for the Rolex Prince movement was granted on October 1st, 1927. The advantage of the design, which places the winding barrel and balance at opposite ends of the watch, allowed the use of a larger balance which helped improve accuracy. The Rolex 'Prince' is often know as the 'Doctor's Watch'. Through Rolex themselves publicising their sweep seconds watches as being particularly suitable for the medical profession Doctors often received them as gifts from grateful patients.
