Description

A symbol of Ted Williams' unyielding pursuit of hitting perfection, this customized training bat was a cherished tool of the Red Sox slugger throughout a significant portion of his career. Obtained from Williams by his longtime friend Jim Carroll, consignor of the Williams cleats offered in the previous lot, this Adirondack two-toned model 175A (stamped on knob) bat is stamped "Williams Type" on the barrel. The barrel of the bat has been hollowed out and filled with lead giving it substantial weight. According to our consignor, this "training bat" was a constant companion of Williams' even on road. Williams was so protective of it that he vehemently disallowed its use by other players to a point that the bat earned a revered status amongst Red Sox insiders. The bat, 'well-worn appearance is indicative of long-term use, yet it remains uncracked with no significant structural faults. LOA and other articles of provenance from Jim Carroll.
