Description
A two-time consensus all American and a two time NBA champion with the Celtics the game of Basketball came naturally to Bailey Howell. He was chosen second overall in the 1959 NBA draft and spent the next dozen years in the NBA playing for Detroit, Baltimore, Boston, and Philadelphia. Often described as a player who could shoot like a guard and rebound like a center, Howell really was a jack-of-all-trades in the NBA. He averaged nearly 19 points and 10 rebounds a game over 12 seasons. A trade to Boston before the 1967 season rejuvenated Bailey and helped spur the Celtics on to two additional championships during the 1968 and '69 seasons. When Howell retired from the game in 1971 he was in the top ten in nine statistical categories including points (17,770), games played (950) and rebounding (9,383). Howell was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1997. LOAs from MEARS (A10) and Grey Flannel.
