Description
After a thirty-three year hiatus the Pittsburgh Pirates, baseball's first modern National League champions (1901), finally returned to the Fall Classic. Their opponent, the American League's New York Yankees, had participated in eight of the last ten contests and only had to wait one year to get back to the big show. Pittsburgh had no problem knocking off their postseason cobwebs, stunning the Bronx Bombers in an exhilarating seven game series culminated by Bill Mazeroski's walk-off home run. The series would mark the end of Casey’s magnificent run as Yankees manger. This group includes an unofficial "KDKA Radio" baseball signed by 21 members of the 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates. They are: Baker, Burgess, Cimoli, Clemente, Face, Friend, Green, Groat (MVP), Haddix, Labine, Law, Levy, Mazeroski, Murtaugh, Narron, Nelson, Oceak, Oldis, Smith, Witt, and Virdon. The ball is clean with signatures averaging 8/10. Also included is an OAL (Cronin) ball signed by 25 members of the 1960 New York Yankees. They are: Berra, Blanchard, Boyer, Cerv, Coates, DeMaestri, Ditmar, Duren, Ford, Gabler, Grba, Hadley, Howard, James, Kubek, Lopez, Maas, Mantle, Maris (MVP), McDougald, Richardson, Shantz, Skowron, Terry and Turley. Signatures are mostly 9/10 or better while the ball itself is very clean. Complementing the balls is Casey's 1960 World Series photo album with sixteen 8" by 10" photos given to him by the staff of the Pittsburgh Hilton documenting his stay there. LOAs from PSA/DNA, JSA and the Stengel family.
