Casey Stengel's 1953 SPORT Magazine Sportsman of The Year Award

Upon guiding his Bronx Bombers to an unprecedented fifth consecutive World Series victory, Casey Stengel was on top of the sports world in 1953. Among the more prominent honors bestowed upon him, was being named Sport Magazine's "Sports Man of The Year".  Marking the occasion he was presented with this rectangular wood-backed award measuring 15" by 10". There are two bronze-colored eagles on pedestals flanking the central 5 1/2" by 7 1/2" engraved plaque which reads, "SPORT MAGAZINE AWARD -- Casey Stengel -- Sports Man of The Year 1953."  The wood plaque shows little overall handling wear with the only notable condition issue being some flaking of the gold finish on one of the figural eagles.
