Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth Dual Signed Baseball

This Spalding official NL baseball, signed by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig features special provenance, the same as in the previous lot. Babe Ruth’s signature (6/10) adorns the sweet spot with Gehrig’s (7/10) on the side panel with his added notation “To my little sidekick Mackey” and in another’s hand “Arthur.” Arthur was the sick youngster and also the recipient of his idol’s largess, gifts that perfectly represented the kind and benevolent characteristics embraced by the Yankee greats during the height of their career. The ball shows moderate soiling and handling wear, not obscuring the highly legible penning of the great Yankees duo. A poignant letter from the consignor accompanies this lot.
