Description
Leroy Neiman’s association with Muhammad Ali dates back to 1962. The renowned artist met the fighter in the dressing room in the St. Nicholas Arena in New York City before Clay defeated Billy Daniels. Neiman sketched the young heavyweight sitting on the rubbing table. Clay immediately showed his own interest in art by asking to add his own drawing at the bottom of Neiman's work. This was the beginning of a long relationship between the artist and the prize fighter. The offered collotype features a printed Neiman sketch of Ali training at the famous 5th Street Gym in Miami in front of a throng of reporters. The image has been hand colored and signed twice by Leroy Neiman. One signature is accompanied by the personalization “To Jeff.” The entire image, measuring 28” by 16”, is comprised of two equal panels. Framed to an overall size of 36” by 24 1/2”. LOAs from PSA/DNA and JSA.
