Description
Hall of Famer “Dr. J” left an indelible impression on the game of Basketball as his scintillating play single-handedly facilitated the merger between the ABA and NBA in 1976. An All-Star in every year of his professional sixteen-year career, he was the first to bring the field of play “above the rim” and in doing so, changed the face of the game forever. His grace and style have made him a true ambassador of the game. Erving won three championships, four MVP awards, and three scoring titles while playing with the ABA's Virginia Squires, New York Nets and the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers. He is the fifth-highest scorer in professional basketball history, with 30,026 points (NBA and ABA combined). Erving was named as one of the NBA’s 50 Greatest Players in 1996 and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993. This Philadelphia 76ers Dr. J home mesh jersey dates from the early 1980's. On the left tail of the jersey is the "Wilson" label with the size "40" and below is a tag stating "3" Ex. Lgth." Across the front of the jersey is the name "Sixers" in blue tackle twill on a red tackle twill backing and on the back is the name "Erving" in blue tackle twill. The player number "6" appears on both the front and back of the shirt in blue tackle twill on a red tackle twill backing. Erving has autographed the back of the jersey. Included with the uniform are trunks. The trunks were originally worn by another player before being given to Julius. The "Wilson" label in the waistband notes the size "34" and below this is the "Pearson" label. Under this is the year tag "78" and next to this is a tag with Erving’s player number "6." Both these tags are made of blue chain stitch. LOAs from MEARS (A10) and Grey Flannel.
