Description
Not only did Waldo C. Moore, a pioneer autograph collector, obtain from the great pitcher an autograph for his collection but his creative mind led to the creation of perhaps the most interesting checks ever written by Walter Johnson’s hand. Most likely at Moore’s prompting, Johnson made this check out in the amount of one cent, signed it, and dated it October 10, 1924, the exact date of the pitcher's greatest triumph, the date that he led his Washington Nationals team to his only World Championship during game 7 of the 1924 World Series. This offering takes on additional importance when one considers that the check is not marred by a cancellation and is the only check known that is dated by Walter contemporaneously to his playing career. Slightly trimmed on the check’s left edge, the check has been encapsulated and graded 8 NM-MT by PSA/DNA. A letter of the checks provenance is also included from Kevin Keating. Additional LOAs from JSA, Kevin Keating and Walter Johnson's Grandson, Hank Thomas.
