- width 7.3cm, 2 7/8 in
maker's mark possibly JVH for Jean-Vincent Huguet, charge marks of Jean-Jacques Prévost, Paris, 1765
the lid later inset with an earlier enamel miniature of a lady, possibly Madame de la Vallière, school of Petitot, on a striped pink, gold and black lacquer ground, rayed gold cagework mounts and lining

Condition
The lacquer surfaces in generally good condition. The mounts have been off and unevenly re-applied, with some splits and loss; pins lacking. The miniature in good condition save for a shallow chip to edge at upper left. The interior side lining with dents overall, the base liner has buckled.
