Description

  • width 8.5cm, 3 3/8 in
maker's mark FJ incuse, probably Swiss, circa 1810, the rim numbered: 4637



rectangular with cut corners, the lid painted en plein with a declaration, within a wide opaque white enamel border applied with split pearls, the corners engraved with sprigs on a matted ground, the sides and base enamelled in translucent sepia within engraved and white-enamelled borders

Condition

There are enamel losses to the lid panel and border (visible in the catalogue photo), and at the edges of each of the four side panels. The base in excellent condition. Two split pearls lacking. The surface of the the lid enamel has become textured over an area at left.
