Charles Ouizille, charge and discharge marks of Henri Clavel, Paris, 1787, the rim engraved: Ouizille Bijoutier du Roy AParis, later cock's head control
oval, the lid applied with a miniature, by François Dumont, signed, of Louis XVI, with powdered hair en queue, wearing a rose-embroidered pale blue velvet coat with white cravat and red gilet, with the Star of the Order of the Saint-Esprit, within a border of rose-cut pastes, the ground, sides and base enamelled in royal blue scattered with gold stars within borders of turquoise beads bound by blue ribbons and translucent green leaves, the interior of the lid with presentation inscription

Presented to Antoine-Omer Talon, marquis du Boulay et de Tremblay-le-Vicomte (1760-1811), by Louis XVI in gratitude for services rendered during the Royal family's flight to Varennes in June 1791;

Condition
The left portion of the lid has been restored; this area has darkened to almost black (although it appears blue in the catalogue photo). The left side panel and back panel have lost their enamel completely. The right portion of the lid, the base, and the front and right side panels are in excellent condition, as are the borders and miniature.
