maker's mark R crowned incuse, circa 1790, later French hibou import marks
rectangular with cut corners, the lid painted en plein with a sujet de chasse within a border of paillon swags, the filigree scroll border interspersed with turquoise enamel ovals, the ground of translucent blue enamel over wavy engine-turning, the corners with paillon urns, the interior of the lid with later presentation inscription, the base sliding to reveal the counter compartments, the oval counters enamelled with robed and crowned figures, the backs inscribed with sentiments of fortune: je gagne toujours, je porte bonheur, j'apporte l'esperance, je suis fortuné

Condition
Very good restored condition. The front, back, corners and one of the sides have been lacquered, as have three of the counters. The interior of the sliding base has been restored.
