Description

  • width 8.3cm, 3 1/4 in
apparently maker's mark C.P crowned incuse in base, probably Geneva, circa 1780, the rim with later French cock's head control mark



oval, formerly opening to reveal a secret compartment within the lid, the lid now inset with a later enamel plaque painted with Helios in his sun chariot, pearl border, the sides and base enamelled in dark blue scattered with gold paillons, the borders with multi-coloured paillon ornament

Condition

As noted in the catalogue description, the secret compartment in the lid no longer functions. There are enamel losses to the front of the lid, partially restored; please see catalogue photo. There is another area of restoration to the rear left side of the lid.
