rectangular, the lid inset with an oval enamel plaque, painted in the manner of Jean-Louis Richter, with cattle being watered in an Italianate lake, split pearl frame and border, the ground decorated in a translucent blue and green diaper pattern on a moiré ground, the sides and base smartly bordered with a taille d'épargne star and loop design

Condition

The lid and front are in excellent condition. There are patches of restoration to the base, back, left and right sides, and these surfaces have been lacquered. Minor losses and some restorations to enamel borders and corners.

Whether intentional or not, this unusual snuff box, with its combination of long-horned cattle and a plaid design, appears to give a romantic, somewhat Scottish, effect.
