maker“s mark FJ crowned incuse with French prestige marks, circa 1800, later French control marks, the rim numbered: 2549
rectangular with cut corners, the lid painted en plein with country figures and classical ruins beside a meandering stream, the ground enamelled in translucent navy blue over striped engine-turning within paillon and white enamel borders

Condition
The sides and base have been re-enamelled in hard enamel and re-fired (meaning also that the hinge has been re-done). There are two enamel losses along the edge of the base panel, partially down to the metal, the longest of which is approx. 13mm. The lid is in very good condition with minor surface scratches.
