Description

  • width 9.5cm, 3 3/4 in
sunray marks, probably German, circa 1810, the rim numbered: 3275



rectangular, the lid painted en plein with peasants resting near a lake, the borders, sides and base decorated in translucent dark blue, opaque duck egg blue and white

Condition

There is a large area of surface abrasion to the left side of the lid, further scratching to the right side. Small enamel loss down to the metal at white line border, upper right (visible in catalogue photo), and a small chip to the blue enamel, lower right corner (also visible in the catalogue photo). Narrow enamel loss down to the metal at the blue panel at the back of the box.

Catalogue Note

Although the inventory numbers on this box and the snuff box, lot 29, are not immediately consecutive, it is quite evident from the similarity that the two boxes were produced by the same workshop within a short space of time.
