Description

  • width 8.7cm, 3 1/2 in
unmarked, the box Hanau, the plaque Geneva, circa 1825

rectangular, the lid inset with an enamel plaque painted with sailing boats on a mountain lake near a waterfall, chased coloured gold flower frame, the sides and base engine-turned within cut borders of flowerbaskets and scrolls, the interior of the lid with later inscription

Provenance

The inscription reads: 'Souvenir from father Ivan Ivanovich Gaveman, 1873, Rostov-upon-Don'

Condition

The lid has been off, presumably when the later inscription was added to the lid interior. The front right and left rear corners are pressed down, perhaps as a result of this work being done, resulting in a slight catch when closing. Some lid pins lacking. The hinge replaced. There are two hair cracks to the enamel plaque at upper right, one of which with enamel loss at the edge, visible in the catalogue photo. Two surface scratches lower left, one of which is visible in the catalogue photo.
