Catalogue Note
The arms are those of Jane Bickerton, Duchess of Norfolk, former mistress and second wife of Henry Howard, 6th Duke of Norfolk (1628-83), whom he married in January 1677/8.
These caskets form part of The Duchess of Norfolk's Toilet Service sold, Sotheby's London, 29 November 2006. While only a pair of flasks and the pin cushion in the service bear the hallmarks of Thomas Jenkins, it seems likely that the entire set, charachterised by rich Restoration decoration, is from Jenkins's workshop.
