Description

  • 33.5cm, 13 1/4 in wide
oval, on pierced rim foot, the similar body embossed with curved beaded lobes within applied ropework borders, further engraved with a coat-of-arms within a rococo cartouche, pierced swing handle

Condition

Small dent to left of armorials, repairs around rope twist border and a 1" long 1/4" wide patch at border, good marks, wonderful arms

Catalogue Note

The arms are those of Harbin impaling Abingdon quartering Wyndham for Swayne Harbin (1718-1781) of Newton, Somerset, who married in 1760 Barbara (d. 1809), daughter of George Abington of Over Compton, Dorset, by his wife, Barbara, daughter of William Wyndham of Dinton, Wiltshire. Their eldest son, Wyndham Harbin (1761-1737), inherited the Newton Surmaville estate.

The arms are those of Harbin impaling Abington quartering Wyndham for Swayne Harbin (1718-1781) of Newton Surmaville, only son and heir of Wyndham Harbin (1685-1741) and his wife, Abigail (née Swayne), who married in 1760 Barbara (d. 1809), daughter and heiress of George Abington of Over Compton, co. Dorset, by his wife, Barbara, daughter of William Wyndham of Dinton, co. Wiltshire.
