Description

pseudo marks rubbed, probably German, 19th century



oval, in 18th century taste, the lid inset with two rose diamond and ruby-set female figures in relief, one playing a mandolin, the other a lyre, below jewelled garlands, the back, front and sides with musical trophies, on translucent blue enamel grounds over banded engine-turning, the exuberant mounts chased with a wealth of scrolls, winged putto masks, musical and garden trophies, tied ribbons and enamelled leaves and berries

Condition

Excellent condition. There is a shallow enamel chip at right of lid panel, and miniscule enamel losses at the borders. A heavy and impressive box.
