makers' mark SC in a vertical lozenge, probably for Collins Sons, Hanau, circa 1820



of rounded rectangular form, the lid inset with a rectangular miniature of a lady with dark curls, wearing a white embroidered muslin dress with vandyke collar, red paisley shawl, the ground and sides chased with rose garlands and scrollwork on a sablé ground within narrow blue enamel borders, the base with a central winged term

Condition

The blue enamel borders at sides with minor losses. Base rim with two nicks: one at 6 o'clock and one at 12 o'clock. One lid pin lacking. The interior of the lid with pin pricks. The base with small dents, one of which is visible at exterior, two of which are visible at interior. The miniature is suffering from water damage and mould on the background of the top section, which is visible in the catalogue photo. The case is scuffed and time worn.
