Description

  • width 8.8cm, 3 1/2 in
maker's mark rubbed, perhaps S & C in script with a rampant lion and another symbol, circa 1820

rectangular, the lid inset with a Geneva enamel plaque painted with philosphers seated disputing at a table, within narrow blue enamel and cut scrolling leaf borders, the sides and base engine-turned within similar borders

Condition

The condition of enamel plaque and goldwork is good and crisp; there are losses however in several places to the narrow blue enamel borders. These do not detract from the generally good appearance of the box. There is a shallow dent at front left corner.
