Description

  • height 6cm, 2 3/8 in
English, in the manner of James Barbot, circa 1765



of upright rectangular form, the gold cagework mounts scrolled and wrapped in garlands with birds flanking the red paste thumbpiece, enclosing glass panels banded in orange to simulate agate, the white enamel collar inscribed in gold with the motto:  L'espoir de ta fidelité fait ma seule félicité, the mirror-lined interior fitted with ivory memorandum slips, two gold-capped scent bottles, gold folding knife, steel tweezers and four implements, bodkin lacking

Condition

Two portions of the gold mount at front of lid lacking. (They were present at the time the photograph was taken but are now lacking.) Enamel collar worn and chipped. One implement (a bodkin) lacking. Old label still attached to base with no apparent damage underneath.
