apparently unmarked, German or Austrian, late 18th century, later French ET import marks



of shaped oval form, the lid, sides and base inlaid with panels of red, honey, moss and banded grey agates within reeded gold cloisons, the lid chased with two-colour gold acanthus, gold-lining

Condition

One base panel and one lid panel cracked, otherwise in good condition.

Catalogue Note

It appears that, as with some Neuber boxes, the agates are laid on painted card to enhance the colour. Intriguingly the paint has crizzled in some places leaving glimpses of the writing on the card below.
