Catalogue Note

John Duke Coleridge became Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas and a Privy Councillor in December 1873.

The identity of the maker who uses the well-known mark of the B and anchor appears to be unplublished. It is therefore interesting to find a similar cup and cover cup by the Hanau manufacturers Nereseheimer, exhibited recently in Germany (Macht und Pracht: Europas Glanz im 19. Jahrhundert [exhib. cat.], Europäisches Zentrum für Kunst und Industriekultur, Saarland, 2006, p. 239.)
