Description

  • 54.75cm, 21 1/2 in high overall
square plinth with acanthus leaf borders, panels applied with the arms of Finch-Hatton and Kent and regimental banners with the inscription Eastwell Park 21st July 1831, the fourth panel inscribed Presented to Lt Colonel the Earl of Winchilsea & Nottingham by the East Kent Regiment of Yeomanry Cavalry... Octr 5th 1838; the urn with waisted foliate stem, the base of the bowl lobed and its rim with applied grapevine border, the handles formed as the Finch-Hatton supporters of a pegasus and a griffin, stamped 281 Storr & Mortimer

Provenance

Given to George William Finch-Hatton (1791-1858), 10th Earl of Winchilsea and 5th Earl of Nottingham. His seat was Eastwell Park, Kent, now demolished.

Condition

Good clear set of hallmarks on plinth, foot and body of urn, decoration and engraving still crisp, urn slightly leaning but can be easily straightened, overall good condition.
