Catalogue Note
Based on photographs, Dr. Bernard Schnackenburg believes this painting to be an early work by Isaac van Ostade, probably datable to circa 1640. A related drawing of the same composition by Ostade was formerly in the collection of Anton Schmid, Vienna (See B. Schnackenburg, Adriaen van Ostade/ Isack van Ostade, 1981 Hamburg, p. 175, cat.no. 421 reproduced).
