Catalogue Note

This copper repeats the composition of a painting of 1606/07 by Ludovico Carracci, painted for the church of Santa Cristina, Bologna (still in situ).  Based on photographs, Dr. Alessandro Brogi believes it to be a redaction of Carracci's altarpiece by his pupil Cavedone, executed before the time of Cavedone's trip to Rome in 1609/10 (see literature).
