Catalogue Note
The present compositions repeat, as two separate portraits, van Dyck's monumental Portrait of Charles I and Queen Henrietta Maria with their two eldest children, Charles, Prince of Wales, and Mary, Princess Royal, which the artist painted almost immediately after his arrival in London in 1632.
