We are grateful to Fred Meijer of the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie, The Hague for suggesting an attribution to Peter Binoit.  He compares it to another version of this composition on copper, 51.5 by 73 cm., also unsigned and with differences in some of the colors of the fruit (see G. Bott, Ein Stück von allerlei Blumenwerk, ein stück von Früchten, zwei Stück auf Tuch mit Hecht : die Stillebenmaler Soreau, Binoit, Codino und Marrell in Hanau und Frankfurt 1600-1650, Hanau 2001, p. 202, cat. no. WV.B.20, reproduced in color pp. 44-45).
