Description
The first set on the body and wings with cushion-shaped, old-mine and rose-cut diamonds together weighing approximately 5.00 carats, further accented with cushion-shaped and calibré-cut rubies, mounted in silver and gold, circa 1860; the second set on the wings with oval cabochon opals framed by split pearls, the body set with cushion-shaped rubies, the head with a square emerald, accented further with old-mine diamonds, mounted in gold, late 19th century.
Condition
The ruby butterfly has solder repairs on the back and the pin mechanism has also been attached with solder, the larger two pear-shaped diamonds and one old mine diamonds are approximately K-L color, and range from approximately VS to I clarity, all smaller diamonds matched accordingly; the rubies vary slightly in tone from dark to lighter purplish red; the opal butterfly also with the pin mechanism soldered on, the split pearls with medium luster, the emerald a bright lively green, the rubies well-matched and saturated a dark purplish red, the small diamonds with a faint light brownish hue, slightly included, overall condition is good.
