Description
The first brooch designed as a spray of flowers, the petals applied in multi-colored enamel, further decorated with old-mine diamonds and cabochon rubies, mounted in gold and silver, with fitted case; the second an openwork plaque decorated with flowers and scrolls, set with 33 old-mine diamonds and 3 variously-cut emeralds, mounted in gold; the third featuring a shell cameo carved with the profile of a woman in classical taste wearing a fruiting grapevine in her hair, the openwork frame decorated at the corners with single-cut diamonds, mounted in gold; the gold locket-pendant, circa 1900, engraved on both sides with an elaborate pattern of flowers and scrolls, the front also engraved with a monogram in script, the inside featuring a painted portrait of Maureen O'Hara, signed Stella L. Marks, R.M.S.
Condition
The first brooch has traces of solder and some oxidation. Is likely a composite from antique elements. Diamonds are decorative, total weight approximately 3.00 carats. Rubies are pinkish red, a few stones are abraded. The second brooch has solder repair and pin was probably later added. Diamonds weigh approximately 2.25 carats and are G-I color, VS-I clarity. Emeralds are watery green, a few abrasions/chips.Cameo brooch is in good condition, the diamonds weigh approximately 2.25 carats and are G-H color, VS-SI clarity. The locket is in good condition, some slight oxidation. Portrait is backed with a note: Miss Maureen O'Hara, portrait on ivory, painted December 1953 by Stella L. Marks, R.M.S., A.S.M.P., 27 Pembroke Gardens, London W8.
