Gold, onyx and diamond locket-pendant, circa 1870

Description

The heart-shaped locket decorated with a floral spray set with old-mine and rose-cut diamonds, opening to reveal two locket compartments, surmounted by an enamel and diamond pendant loop, the interior inscribed: "May 18, 1874" and "February 14th, 1974". Together with a chain of onyx elongated links and faceted beads, length 19½ inches.  With fitted case for the locket.

Condition

The diamonds in the locket are rose-cut and old mine-cut and are of decorative quality. One tiny diamond missing. Two glazed compartments on the interior, one with a monogram DW applied in gold on the inside of the glass. The chain is formed of carved onyx links, with a small amount of chipping to the edges of several of the links. Both pieces in good condition overall.
