ENAMEL & DIAMOND VANITY CASE, AND A CORAL, ONYX AND DIAMOND JABOT PIN, 1920s

Description

The rectangular black enamel case, applied with a demi-lune motif millegrain-set with rose-cut diamonds, with red enamel decoration, designed as an envelope, opening to reveal a mirror and two hinged compartments, measuring approximately 80mm x 50mm x 8mm; accompanied by a jabot pin, decorated with a circular carved coral tablet surmount, to a connection of palmette design, highlighted with rose-cut diamonds and buff-top onyx, the pear-shaped guard similarly decorated, length approximately 78mm, French assay marks.

Condition

Jabot Pin: French assay marks for 18 carat gold and platinum to pin. Palmette shaped connection secure with cabochon coral an orangy red hue. Carved tablet a strong red colour does not appear to be coral but possibly a type of resin that has been varnished. Diamonds bright and lively. Vanity case: Stamped 14K for 14 carat gold. Right hand compartment with a weak closing mechanism, not as secure as left. Minor scratching to polished gold interior and enamel exterior consistent with wear. Diamonds bright and lively. Heavy piece weighing approximately 163 grams. Both pieces in very good condition.
