Description

The rectangular black glass tablet inset to the centre with a scene of the Roman Forum depicted in multi-coloured tesserae, to a frame decorated with engraved scroll motifs, accompanied by a fitted case by Watherston & Brogden, Goldsmiths, Manufactory, 16. Henrietta St. Covent Garden, London.

Condition

Maker's marks JHW to reverse of sprung safety hook. Black glass mount with some small nicks to edges only visible with magnification. Very smooth surface and no losses to tesserae. Slight traces of tarnish to gold frame, could benefit from a careful clean by a professional jeweller. Pendant bail to reverse. Original fitted retailers case with scratches and tears to leather covering exposing the wooden frame in some places. Silk lining a little marked from the frame of the brooch, velvet interior a little discoloured. Weight of brooch approximately 48 grams. In excellent condition.
