Description

  • height 22 3/4 in.; width 11 1/2 in.
  • 56 cm; 29 cm
composed of addorsed caryatids above a leaf-cast domed base, the curved fluted candle branches terminating in Egyptian masks supporting circular gadrooned nozzles, centered by a covered urn on curved supports surmounted by lions' heads.

Catalogue Note

The model for these candlesticks (without candle branches) appears on a design for a console executed by Dugourc circa 1789 (illustrated, Ottomeyer, Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, Vol. I, p. 287, fig. 4.15.6).  An identical pair of candelabra is illustrated, op. cit. p. 258, fig. 4.7.10, see also pl. XXV.
