Description

  • height 4 1/2 in.; width 19 1/2 in.; depth 11 3/4 in.
  • 11.5 cm; 49.5 cm; 30 cm
of rectangular outline, with fruit-filled baskets and fruiting grape vines, the canted arched corners cast with Apollo masks and struck with the number 71; now with a galvanized metal liner.

Catalogue Note

A surtout de table by Thomire, made circa 1825, has identical frieze decoration and identical arched elements.  It is in the San Francisco Fine Arts Museum, illustrated, Ottomeyer, Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, Vol. I, p. 387, fig. 5.16.14.
