modelled by Johann Friedrich Eberlein, each wearing a brown fur-trimmed tunic and pale yellow hat, he with a sword, a shield and a quiver of arrows, she with a basket of fruit and covered basket, mounted on mid-18th century ormolu scroll-molded bases, crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue. Some losses and restoration.

Catalogue Note
A pair of figures of this model is illustrated by Rainer Ruckert, Meissener Porzellan, pl. 240, nos. 984 and 985, where the author notes on p. 182 that the Meissen factory's work records for August 1746 record under Eberlein's name "1 Figur, ein Indianisch Weibel 3/4 Elle grosz mit 2 Korben vorstellend, fur Sr. H. R. Gr. etc. v. Bruhl zu Boussiren angefangen".
A pair of figures of this model, on square bases, from the Fritz Mannheimer Collection is in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, and illustrated by Abraham L. den Blaauwen, Meissen Porcelain in the Rijksmuseum, pp. 444-5, no. 325, where the author references only eight other known pairs. Another pair from the Estate of Mme. Helene Beaumont, Villa Eilenroc, Cap d'Antibes, was sold at Sotheby's, Monaco, December 4, 1992, lot 18. Two single figures, the female figure with a mound base, and the male with a square base, were sold in these rooms, October 21, 1993, lots 18 and 19.
