Description

  • height 28 1/2 in.; diameter 35 in.
  • 72.4 cm; 88.9 cm
the inset top with specimen marbles and fossilized stones within a slate border, the scrolled feet on casters; the inside frame with a paper label and inked illegible inscription.  Restorations, possibly once part-ebonized.

Condition

Overall good restored condition, cracks to specimen marble top, 4 ½ in. replaced section to bordered edge, pieced sections to tops of two legs of different figure but probably original, old marks and scratches, fading and age cracks to mahogany veneers of top, frieze and plinth, old marks and scratches, chips to feet.

Catalogue Note

This fine specimen marble top is composed of rare variegated examples containing sections of fossilized gasteropod mollusks and fauna, interspaced with different varieties of griotte within brown onyx and black Belgian marble bandings.
