Catalogue Note
Auguste-Hippolyte Sauvrezy (1815-1884)
He worked in Paris and Italy and was based in Paris at 23, rue de Turenne and 97, rue du Fauborug-Saint-Antoine. After 1848, he moved away from making furniture that was "bourgeois, solide, honnete, consciencieux et bien fait" in favour of furniture that was "des plus admirables faiseurs de meubles sculptes", namely he moved away from classic furniture to more sculptural furniture. This table must be part of his earlier classical production based on Louis XVI models. One of the "most glorious" modern ébénistes at the Exposition of 1855- "il presenta des meubles de chene et d'ebene sculptés et dorés" . He also participated in Expositions Universelles in 1867 and won a Gold medal at the one in 1878.
