Description
- screen 140cm. high, each leaf 66cm. wide; 4ft. 7in., 2ft. 2in.
with two leaves, with a serpentine cresting, the upper section with a landscape scene depicting figures involved in country pursuits, shepherdesses and cowherders surrounded by copses and animals, the sky filled with birds and butterflies, the lower section painted to simulate marble within red and gold floral and cross-hatched borders
Provenance
Purchased from the Estate of the late Giuseppe Rossi, Vol. I, in these Rooms, 10th March 1999, lot 79 (£18,000).
Condition
Colour less greenish and more contrast of colours and much more attractive than in the catalogue photograph. Some very minor retouching to the lacquer. There are some hairline construction cracks commensurate with age as visible from the catalogue illustration, which can easily be filled or even just left as they are as they do not detract from the piece. The left panel is slightly warped. The detail to the decoration is very attractive, especially the arte povera. The decoration on the back has been refreshed. In otherwise good conserved condition. Recommended.
