Description

  • 9.5cm. high, 24cm. wide, 24cm. deep; 3 ¾in., 9 ½in., 9½in.
of square form with concave sides and canted corners, the top inlaid with geometric motifs and flower heads, the sides with panels of scrolling foliage and strapwork, centered by a roundel enclosing a flowerhead, the canted corners mounted with a lion mask, the frieze inlaid with guilloche enclosing flowerheads, on paw feet

Condition

There are very minor restorations to the inlay, especially the turtleshell with some miniscule chips and losses. Very attractive detail to marquetry and the border of the top is very attractively oyster-veneered. Very minor tarnishing to mounts and it is possible that some of the mounts are later additions especially the roundels enclosing the flower heads. One side of the guilloche frieze has been replaced with a brass strip. An attractive piece in otherwise good condition.
