Catalogue Note

Dubufe was a pupil of Jacques-Louis David. He became Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur in 1831 and exhibited paintings, mainly portraits, at the Paris Salons from 1810 until the year before his death. His son Édouard-Louis (1820-1883) and his grandson Édouard Marie-Guillaume (1853-1909) were also painters.
