A pair of French biscuit figures of a pagan priest and vestal late 18th century

together with a pair of neoclassical biscuit figures after the antique, probably Danish, early 19th century; together with Two Sèvres allegorical biscuit groups of putti by La Rue, after originals made for Machault d'Arnouville, stamped Sèvres 1911, of Summer with a wheatsheaf and upturned basket of flowers, the other with scales and a dagger, possibly Justice

The Pagan Priest and Vestal The vestal has a glue repair to her right arm and a miniscule chip to her dress. She has lost some of the flowers on top of her head. Otherwise very good condition. The priest has also lost some of the foliage on his head and has a few very small chips to his cape but is otherwise in excellent condition. Both have very minor surface dirt. The Danish Figures One lady's head has been re-stuck her neck. There is some minor surface dirt. In otherwise very good condition. The other lady has minor losses to her fingers, but is in otherwise very good condition, with minor surface dirt. Putti These are a bit dirty and might benefit from cleaning according to taste. One boy's head has been re-stuck to his neck. In otherwise in excellent condition.

Machault d'Arnouville was one of the leading political figures during the reign of Louis XV. He was the son of the lieutenant général of the Paris police and became the vice President of the grand Council (1667-1750). He held various government posts and in 1749, became the Minister of State. He had an exceptional collection of tapestries, furniture, sculptures and porcelain formed during the years 1740-1760. In 1754, the Sèvres porcelain factory offered him, `une paire de presse-papiers en porcelaine blanche', now in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris.
