STRUCTURE
The canvas has been lined.
PAINT SURFACE
The painting appears to be in good condition. There is some minor frame abrasion to the extreme top edge of the canvas. There is a very small area of re-touching to the lower right of the canvas, visible on very close inspection. Otherwise the painting appears to be in good, clean condition.
ULTRAVIOLET
Ultraviolet light reveals very limited scattered areas of re-touching.

Held in a gilt plaster and wood frame.

Catalogue Note
Sir Henry Wheatley was Kepper of the Privy Purse to William IV and Queen Victoria. Knighted in 1831, he became Major General in the Hanoverian Army and was awarded the Grand Cross of Hanover in 1834. During his distinguished career he received other decorations including Companion of the Order of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath in 1848.
