Condition

STRUCTURE Both canvases have been lined. PAINT SURFACE Both paintings appear to be in good condition. There is an area of re-touching to the upper left of "Peace". There is some cracquelure in keeping with age to "War" and a very small area of paint has lifted slightly, upper centre, but this appears to be stable. The edges of both original canvases are just visible in some places. ULTRAVIOLET Ultraviolet light reveals some light and scattered re-touching to "Peace", mainly to the lower half of the painting. UV light reveals a greater degree of scattered re-touching has been carried out to "War", including to the figures, and some infilling of cracquelure to the lower left and lower right of the painting. FRAME Both paintings are held in gilt wood and plaster frames.
