Condition

STRUCTURE Oil on copper. PAINT SURFACE Both paintings are in generally good condition, with some surface marks and light frame abrasion to the outer edges. The painting of "man of war being towed to anchor" has a very small patch of paint loss in the centre of the composition, on the horizon. ULTRAVIOLET Ultraviolet light reveals very minor areas of re-touching to the painting of "frigates in an approaching storm," and none to the "man of war being towed to anchor." FRAME Held in decorative gilt wood frames.
