bidding is closed
Description
- William Marlow
- A river landscape with a ferryboat approaching elegant company
- oil on canvas
Condition
The canvas is unlined. The canvas is lifting slightly along the lower edge and in the upper left hand corner. The varnish layer is very yellowed and the work should clean well. There is evidence of a few tiny paint losses.
Examination under ultraviolet light reveals a thick varnish which obscures a clear reading. There is evidence of some infilling to areas of paint shrinkage as well as to some paint losses in the lower left hand foliage. There is a vertical line of old damage in the lower left hand corner. There are some scattered retouchings, some of which have discoloured in the sky.
Held in a moulded gilt wood frame.
